WHY SMASH THE HOME TAX, AGAIN?
Special interests want millions of Florida homeowners to pay up.
For the past two years, special interests attempted to force the home tax through the Florida Legislature. Now, the home tax is back - SB 398 and HB 483.
It would shift more costs on homeowner associations, allowing the real estate industry and title companies to walk away with even more of our hard earned money.
After record profits during the housing recovery, the real estate industry and title companies want existing homeowners, not their clients, to front the costs for new home purchases.
This means that while they are making millions, they want the rest of us to assume all the risk for new home purchases in our own neighborhoods, regardless of whether or not a new homebuyer can afford to purchase a home or acts irresponsibly.
Homeowners in Florida deserve the protection of vetted, professional estoppel letters before allowing the real estate industry and title companies to cash their checks.
